Skunk Anansie: Paranoid and Sunburnt

Time to look at a more recent recording. A band from England who have climbed the charts with there blend of aggression and gentility. The band I refer to is known as Skunk Anansie and the album Paranoid and sunburnt.

This is an album full of frustration and angst. It fights with your emotions as this is a response to their (mainly Skin’s (the vocalist)) emotional hurt due to weakness. They put the cards firmly on the table and are not afraid to show their hand even if it means revealing self-weakness. They respond to the feelings with great anger, confusion and whimpering submittance and this kind of honesty is rare anywhere these days never mind in a rock industry where you are told everyone must die or be beaten by your own superiority.

The musicianship is great, not to technical yet there’s nothing missing and all played confidently. Lyricaly good to but at times you do need to try and pick up the lingo. The best aspect musically has to be Skin’s amazing voice which can be a whisper of subtlety or a blast of hell fire in a turn of a nano second.

They have also reeased two albums since as this was there first. Th second was pretty much a continuation of the first and the third album has only just come out so I have not heard it yet but give me time.
It’s nice to see rock is still alive and kicking even if good examples are hard to find these days.
