BLACK SABBATH - MASTER OF REALITY.

Realised in 1971 this masterpiece not only showcases the heaviest riffs known to mankind, but also proved black Sabbath were not just steamhammer head banging. Rock fans were disappointed with Led Zeppelin's third album, mainly because it was too acoustic. Wishing never to be musically limiting Sabbath promised their new album would be their heaviest yet.

Master of reality went gold on advance orders alone. In typical 70s fashion the sleeve was a 7-inch promo of "Children of the grave" on one side with Status Quo on the other and was the only single available. The band did not want singles off the album because the previous year Black Sabbath appeared on "TOP OF THE POPS". They had now found a Teeny Boppa audience with Paranoid, but as Iommi put it they were more to do with sacrificing virgins than teeny boppas.

The album starts with the relentless thump of "Sweat Leaf" through to the monumental grind of "Into the void". Black Sabbath gave birth to a beast. The album sounds as if they are chewing up babies and spitting back the bones. As the "Hippie" era drew to a close Black Sabbath were happy to be the voice of gloom and doom. A sentiment embraced by the world's youth.

This was a mental release for the people bored with "Hippie" values and this album is a classic with a staggering 6 of the 8 songs being covered by other classic rock bands. Their 1971 tour kicked off in Newcastle City Hall and finished on the 29 November at Manchester Trade Hall. Nazareth and Wild Turkey supported them.

So there you go, but I advise you to check out all the first 6 albums, as they are all classics.

BLACK SABBATH were the first and still the best.
You have been reading my page and that's the bottom line, cause the Budda says so.
