WELCOME TO EMULATION!

Rob has used a few computers and games consoles in his time. This piece is just to show that I do know what I'm talking about when I review an emulator. Or something. Read on.

  NEW EMULATION SECTION AT COAGULUS

Phew! As you can see, I’ve had a few. These are computers that I would like to own or have tried but not bought.

  • SNK Neo Geo
  • NEC PC Engine
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (borrowed one for a bit)
  • Nintendo 64 (borrowed one for a bit)
  • Sega Dreamcast
  • Atari Falcon
  • Commodore Amiga A4000 or at least our A1200s in Tower cases and sped up a lot – PowerPC, 3Dfx ahoy!)
  • Nintendo Gameboy Colour
  • Vectrex (borrowed one for a bit)
  • Arcade Machines (yep, all of ‘em)
  • Atari Lynx
  • Konix Console (never came out – just wanted the chair!)

And that my friends is the beauty of having a fast PC (or a fast Mac, Acorn, Amiga etc). Emulation gives you that kind of chance. Oh yes.

For example I (Coagulus) have a real C64 with just about every groovy game that came out either bought and paid for or from magazine covertapes. Despite the joy I have playing on the real thing it is a darn sight easier simply clicking on the game to load it in CCS64 (my preferred C64 emulator) and watching it load in a fraction of the time. Good games stay good now without getting cheesed off by having to spend hours loading them.

But the PC Engine, a marvelous Japanese console never came out over here in the UK. Magic Engine sorts this out by making the PC Engine available everywhere. Joy. Also the SNK Neo Geo was a bit hard to get hold of especially now but much easire with emulation.

A PII 400 or equivalent processor (PowerPC/ Alpha) with a decent graphics card can emulate every computer there has ever been from the ZX81 through the early Colour machines to the Playstation and even the N64!!. In fact you can just about get away with a P200MMX with a 3Dfx as I do.

This new section has been added to keep you up to date with the latest goings on in the world of emulation. With reviews and links to homepages. This section could end up being rather large indeedy. Golly what a lot of typing this will be. I’ll try to get me old mate Dobbar (Dan) in on it too as he has just about every emulator known to man. We’ll be responding to queries about emulators also in our help section.
