HEAVY METAL

For a brief insight into the studded world of Heavy Metal and it's seeming resurgence then why don't you all just read on as Rob guides you through it all and condenses it into one page.

It can be loud, soft, tuneful, chaotic, fast slow, cool, cheesy, sad, groovy, retro, operatic, grunted and many more. In fact there are some bands which can somehow achieve nearly all of the above at once. Yep, it's Heavy Metal, the music which just appears to keep coming back. True, it is one of those musical genres that you either love or loathe but I guarantee there will be at least one song which even HM haters will admit to linking and not know it is from an HM band or at least a heavy rock band (e.g. Ballads). They are usually quite surprised when you tell them who the band is.

Anyway I don?t want to particularly blow the trumpet for "Heavy Metal", people are not that easily converted. This article is just a view on the Metal scene today and how it appears to be on the up again.

Has anyone else noticed the number of 'pop' songs being done about HM eg. Blur and Robbie Williams. These boosted the fun image of HM to the world (and did well in the charts too). The people whom I have spoken to have stated that their views on HM have improved after listening to these.

Also the big publicity reunions of bands from the heyday of HM has also been a significant factor. WASP, Kiss and Black Sabbath were the first with original (or main protagonist) line-up shows and massive publicity not only for themselves but HM music in general. Iron Maiden reforming to a classic lineup (see other report) has also helped along with new albums from Judas Priest (the first in SEVEN years!).

The number of Rock/HM bands in the UK at open air shows/festivals this year has increased significantly. Not only is Metallica holding a Big Day Out (see other report) but there will also be an Ozz-Fest this year along with rumours of a possible return of the classic Donington Monsters of Rock festival. I'll believe that when I see it!

If Metal is on the up, when are the Spice Girls covering Hell Bent For Leather or ?. How about Rick Astley doing Refuse/Resist!!.

Sorry if I put anyone of their food then. NOTE ? The above was a joke!!
